Description

This oval shaped canteen is based on one found in an archaeological excavation at Crown Point, New York. British and American forces were at Crown Point during war time but it was also the site of French Fort St. Frederic built between 1734 and 1737. The 4-story citadel was blown up by the French in August 1759 as they retreated to Montreal in advance of Amherst’s British army. Amherst’s army began construction of the new fort, His Majesty’s Fort of Crown Point, in September 1759 and it was completed, along with four redoubts, in 1761. It became the largest fort
and fortified position the British ever built in North America.
